Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Ehhhhhhh.... it was okay. It didn't get appealing until 70% in. My Rating: ★★.5 Click 'Read More' for my full review! T H E - S Y N O P S I S:
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone... A convict with a thirst for revenge A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager A runaway with a privileged past A spy known as the Wraith A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first. T H E - R E V I E W: My buddy Alice said it best.... "Summary is Ocean’s 11 (here 6) meets Escape from Alcatraz with teenagers." She's not wrong. This is 2.5 stars for me. This was... okay at best. And honestly, I hated the first 1/3. It was so confusing - too many things happening in the VERY FIRST CHAPTER, and none of it mattered. None of it except the drug and its effects. Don't bother trying to remember names or descriptions of those people. It will make your head hurt. Then there is the 6 PoV's. UGH. That. Was. Rough. And it was only rough because there is SO MUCH worldbuilding and these PoV's were total strangers to us. I will 10/10 say I am glad I read Shadow and Bone trilogy first or it would have made it that much more difficult to understand. The world building of the city, however, is decent and descriptive. I really felt like I was in a port-slum. I did enjoy that. I also enjoyed Nina best --and really I focused on her mainly (because spoiler)..... ....she's in the next duology. Inej and Kaz I really liked too, and I liked Jesper enough because he reminded me slightly of Nikolai. Matthias was... alright. I am not invested in him nor am I invested in Wylan. I am going to read The Crooked Kingdom as a buddy read with Alice, and ONLY because we both want to read it before the next duology... but I am going to take my sweet ass time with it and not make it my priority. I am just 'meh' with this whole thing. Having to wait until the last 1/3 of the book to get good and/or engaged was wicked annoying. I know I am in the minority here, but there you have it!
